Bitzone has been in business since 1990 when Viki and Jim wrote a Lotus 1-2-3 workbook to accompany the adult ed computer classes Viki was teaching. Over the years, the company has designed web sites, written training curriculum, documented APIs and other software, and trained through corporate venues and universities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley.
With the publication of Documenting APIs: Writing Developer Documentation for Java APIs and SDKs, the company is positioning itself as a technical publishing and training company. Look for more trainings and publications in the months to come.
From that first Lotus 1-2-3 workbook, Viki went on to write and design software manuals of all kinds, marketing materials, online help systems, web sites, white papers, and training materials. Her clients included Cisco Systems, Chevron, Visa, Oracle, Pacific Bell, and other enterprises, both large and small.
On February 13th, 2011, Viki passed away from complications due to ovarian cancer.
Jim has over 20 years of experience writing API documentation for such companies as Oracle, Sun Microsystems, Inprise, and Taligent. He has also taught computer science and documenting APIs at UC Berkeley Extension, Golden Gate University, Mills College, and the University of San Francisco. In addition to making a living in IT as a techie tech writer, trainer, and software engineer, Jim writes librettos. He wrote the libretto for Sub Pontio Pilato, an opera on the suicide and historical recreation of Pontius Pilate with hauntingly lovely music by Erling Wold.
